Mario Balotelli reaction on Instagram after Cristiano Ronaldo’s celebration Against Torino: Cristiano Ronaldo made plenty of headlines during his first Turin derby with Juventus. The history-books will remember his winning goal against Torino, with the 33-year-old converting the winning penalty despite goalkeeper Salvador Ichazo getting hands to the ball.

In truth, it wasn’t a vintage performance from Ronaldo who struggled to convert a number of big changes but his spot kick effort – Juventus’ 5,000 goal in Serie A – proved the difference on the night. His performance wasn’t without controversy, though, and it all came in one bizarre moment just seconds after he found the net.

During his celebration, Ronaldo ran past Ichazo and looked to give him a deliberate chest-bump before proceeding to embrace his teammates.

Although there was no real malice in the contact, it looked to be a pre-meditated gesture and the referee quickly picked up on the episode. It’s worth noting that Ronaldo proceeded to apologise to Ichazo moments afterwards, but it didn’t stop the former Real Madrid man from picking up a yellow card.

It doesn’t take a genius to work out why the incident quickly blew up on Twitter and football fans were swift to wag their fingers at Ronaldo. The Nice striker – who is well-versed in controversial moments – uploaded a video of the chest-bump to his Instagram audience of over nine million fans.

Writing in Italian, his caption roughly translates to:

‘If I had done it, byeeeeeee!’ You can take a look at the controversial post down below:

In other words, Balotelli reckons he would have been sent off for doing the same thing or, at the very least, would have been criticised for his actions far harsher than Ronaldo has.

Perhaps Balotelli could be onto something here and there’s no debating that the reputation of a player can influence fan reaction and even match officials. Nevertheless, there doesn’t seem to be enough in the celebration to warrant a red card, regardless of whether it was Balotelli or Ronaldo behind it.

Somebody who certainly can’t pass judgement on the incident is Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri who admitted to missing the penalty because he was so nervous.

“I didn’t see the penalty, as I turned my back to it. I very rarely watch the penalties, to be honest,” he informed DAZN, according to Goal.

“I had asked the team to make a sacrifice. It was not likely to be a game with lots of goals. When Torino’s tempo fell, we took control of the game. “The fact that in the second half we were growing means that we are physically well.”
